ZviDance!

Zvi Gotheiner is one of my favorite choreographers. I met Zvi almost ten years ago and on Thursday night, I was fortunate enough to photograph his annual fall dance benefit piece, Personals (2008).  His work is amazing.
ZviDance is “a company comprised of athletic and lyrical dancers that blends contemporary aesthetics with lush, full-bodied movement.”

August, when you’re on the beach you steal the show

Well… yeah… on the beach or in front of the fountain on the grounds of the U.S. Open. This is Fliery, a man who is fun to work with and also is a dance teacher! As an FYI, his name means “blossom.”

July, like a fire cracker all aglow

“Fire cracker all aglow” certainly describes Petr, who currently lives in London but is originally from the Czech Republic. Would you ever guess that he is a personal trainer?
But anyway… In addition to shooting for the calendar, Petr wanted to get some shots for a Calvin Klein underwear photo contest. So, while we were in [...]

June, they’ll let me take you to the junior prom

I did a little research and learned that Neil Sedaka was 20 or 21 when “Calendar Girl” was on the charts. So, given his age, he probably better ask the girl’s parents if it would be okay for him to take their daughter to the junior prom.
And… uh… just to back track a bit, for [...]

May, maybe if I ask your dad and mom…

The more I actually read these lyrics, the more stupid they get—not to mention a little sick.
So, during the month of May the guy is supposed ask the calendar girl’s parents if he’ll take her to the (June) junior prom. Who on earth asks parents if they can take their daughter to the junior prom? [...]

The Afro Bats

Right at the end of a photo shoot in Central Park, near Bethesda fountain, J.C. and I happened to catch a performance by a group of extraordinary acrobats and comedians called the Afro Bats. I couldn’t find a website for them but did find this video of part of their performance on YouTube.

April, you’re the Easter Bunny when you smile…

Easter Bunny when you smile? Who wrote these lyrics? I guess April showers aren’t that cheery…
Meet Chris, who recently moved to New York City from Atlanta. Surprisingly, he doesn’t have much of a Southern accent but he certainly does have that Southern charm. When he moved to the city, he was working in finance but [...]

January, you start the year off fine.

Neil Sedaka’s song, “Calendar Girl,” has been going through my head all afternoon. Darned ear worm!…
Continuing with the calendar theme, I must pose a question: should the first person to model for a new calendar be the first image of the year in the calendar?  Ponderings welcome.
That said, meet Darrel Davenport: writer, actor, director and [...]
